The front side of the cross depicts the Crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The back side bears the opening verses of the protective prayer to the Holy Cross of the Lord. This prayer is recited in times of danger and carried for protection against evil forces: "May God rise, and may His enemies be scattered, and may those who hate Him flee from His presence. As smoke disappears, so may they disappear; as wax melts from the presence of fire, so may demons perish from the presence of those who love God and sign themselves with the sign of the cross, and joyfully say: Rejoice, Most Holy and Life-giving Cross of the Lord, driving away demons by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, who descended into hell and defeated the power of the devil, and gave us His Holy Cross to drive away every enemy.
