Materials & Process:

Following the ancient tradition of Byzantine iconography, this icon is prepared with natural materials. The wooden panel is carefully prepared with multiple layers of gesso, then the image is drawn and painted using egg tempera made from natural pigments. Gold leaf is applied by hand, and the icon is finished with protective varnish.
